Is The iPad A Kindle Killer And Do Amazon Care?

It’s funny, but hardly surprising, to see the launch of Apple’s iPad – variously hailed as the “Kindle Killer” or derided as an oversized iPod Touch – being commented upon as if Amazon should in some way be concerned. Will the iPad kill the amazon kindle or not? Probably not. Maybe it’ll cause a drop in sales, maybe the price of the DX will be reduced a little (it would have happened sooner or later anyway). Amazon are on a winner whatever happens. As a merchant they will sell lots of iPads when it starts shipping in March. They will also expand the market for Kindle books even further as the iPad will use the same Kindle “app” that is currently available for the iPod Touch.
