Filters should be among the first aquarium accessories you buy. Filters keep the water clean and keep the parameters at their normal levels by taking out the debris and other substances from the water such as ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites. Filters do mechanical, biological and chemical filtration, and all three processes ensure the cleanliness of your water. Pumps or wave makers mimic the natural movement of the water but they also provide movement that helps filters clean up the water in the tank. Lights are also very important. If you want to create the mood in your room with the use of your aquarium, blue, pink or green lights will do the trick. Metal halide lights are perfect for mimicking the natural brilliance of sunlight and is best suited for reef tanks.
