The anterior, or buccolabial, lamina splits eventually and transforms into an open epithelial fold separating the lip and the check from the gingival and leading, consequently, to the formation of the vestibule of the oral cavity.
The posterior, dental, lamina passes almost horizontally at first, but as it gradually grows and penetrates deeper it becomes more vertical.
